Democrats’ Latest Stunt To Resist Trump Could Have Torpedoed Their Chance To Win Back Voters

It’s incredible to watch how badly the Democrats are doing right now. The November loss taught them nothing. Democrats could have examined this and learned their lesson without facing the brutal reality of losing voter support. However, they seem to have decided to double down on their failing policies. On Monday, Senate Democrats voted in lockstep to tank common-sense legislation to protect female sports.
The rise of transgender athletes came to a head during the November election, with parents coming out in droves to protest school districts and colleges allowing the practice. Before Trump took office, The New York Times/Ipsos polling showed an overwhelming majority of Americans disapproved of men competing in female sports. Almost 80% of respondents told the pollsters that they do not believe athletes who were male but currently identify as female should be allowed to compete in women’s sports.
This might be a shocking result for left-wing ideologues, but everyday Americans view transgender ideology as a mental illness that is wrecking families across the country. It seems like pure insanity to want a male undressing in female locker rooms, bathrooms, and changing areas.
With massive voter support on their side, the Republican-controlled U.S. House passed the Save Women and Girls in Sports Act with the help of two brave Democrats. Still, 206 Democrat representatives voted against it. When the legislation made its way to the Senate, not a single Democrat voted in favor of it, and the bill died.
There was a moment when Democrats seemed to understand that the political climate in the U.S. had changed. The passage of the Laken Riley Act, which mandates the federal detention of illegal immigrants who are accused of theft, burglary, assaulting a law enforcement officer, and any crime that causes death or serious bodily injury, was a sign that Democrats were going to moderate on positions like immigration and others that are important to Americans.
The Republican party faced the same odds that Democrats are currently staring down. Republicans failed to beat Democrats in two consecutive presidential elections against former President Barack Obama because they refused to run anyone but milquetoast candidates like Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan. If they ever wanted to win on the national stage again, the party would have to make a seismic shift away from business as usual and focus on voter anxieties like immigration, trade, and the economy.
Not much has changed since 2016 regarding voter concerns, with the exception that cultural issues like DEI, transgender ideology, and education reform have become top-line interests.
Instead of moderating on any of these issues, they knife voters in the back to spite Trump. They are stuck in 2016 anti-Trump propaganda land. Meanwhile, everyone else has moved on. It’s as if they genuinely believe that Trump didn’t have a mandate after winning in November. They look at his 1.5 percent popular vote win and claim, “Well that’s not really that much.” But they ignore his gains with black, Hispanic, and young voters. He won the popular vote after a 20-year drought for Republican presidential candidates. He won every swing state, the Electoral College, and the fact that 89 percent of U.S. counties shifted red.
And there was a reason for this. The winning playbook is right in front of the Democrats. The voters have explained their needs to elected officials. We want schools free of left-wing indoctrination, parental rights, protection for children from transgender ideology, closed borders, bold economic policy that puts American workers first, and a federal government that doesn’t waste our taxes. Still, Democrats seem to believe their only job is to resist the Trump administration.
As long as Republicans and Trump continue scoring wins for American voters and Democrats do not adjust to the current political reality, it will be a while before voters trust them to lead the country.
