House Begins Final Vote On Trump’s ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’ Amid Partisan Firestorm

House Speaker Mike Johnson

The House began voting Thursday on President Donald Trump’s sweeping tax-and-border-security legislation, dubbed the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” following a tense overnight standoff and last-minute opposition efforts from Democrats.

House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., urged Republicans to unite behind the bill, saying, “The time is now! President Trump is waiting with his pen.” GOP leaders are confident they have secured enough votes for passage.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., attempted to stall the vote with a marathon floor speech exceeding four hours, slamming the bill as an “extraordinary assault on the healthcare of the American people.” Jeffries accused the Trump administration of “cruelty, chaos, and corruption.”

The bill’s final vote comes more than 24 hours after it was introduced. It is expected to pass narrowly along party lines, with all Democrats opposed.

Trump has set a Friday deadline to sign the legislation into law.
