82-year-old Republican Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell was seen in a wheelchair Wednesday after reportedly falling multiple times in the Capitol building.
Ken Klippenstein, a self described independent reporter, posted a photo of the aged senator being pushed in a wheelchair by an aide. “82 year old Senator Mitch McConnell spotted in a wheelchair after falling not once but twice today,” he wrote.
Republican Montana Sen. Steve Daines and Republican Oklahoma Sen. Markwayne Mullin helped McConnell up, Newsweek reported. McConnell fell after voting to confirm President Donald Trump’s Housing and Urban Development secretary nominee, Scott Turner.
“McConnell fell again outside [the] Senate chamber but was able to get up,” Huffington Post reporter Igor Bobic reported online.
“Senator McConnell is fine,” a McConnell spokesperson said. “The lingering effects of polio in his left leg will not disrupt his regular schedule of work.” McConnell previously suffered a fall back in December at a Republican lunch. The then-Senate Minority Leader received medical care for that incident and also later appeared in a wheelchair. The aged political veteran also previously experienced two freezing incidents back in 2023. Attending Physician of the United States Congress Brian Monahan suggested the incidents could have been brought about by a concussion.
