Netanyahu Set For Comeback
Israel’s former premier Benjamin Netanyahu is poised to return to power with his right-wing bloc projected to win a slim majority over his centre-left opponents, led by current Prime Minister Yair Lapid.
With roughly 85% of votes counted, Netanyahu’s conservative Likud and its likely religious and far-right allies appear to have a decisive lead with 65 seats. However, that could change as the remaining ballots are processed.
Prime Minister Yair Lapid’s short-lived ruling coalition that hailed largely from the centre-left appears to have collapsed.
Such a result would mark a dramatic comeback for Mr Netanyahu, toppled last year after 12 straight years in power.
