In March 2020, a report by the Australian Strategic Policy Institute showed that 27 Chinese factories across nine Chinese provinces used the labor of Uighurs forcibly transported from Xinjiang province.

Xinjiang cotton accounts for 85% of all Chinese cotton, so many global clothing brands were linked to forced labor either directly or indirectly, whether knowingly or not. Numerous companies have since then withdrawn from using these suppliers.
