China’s embassy in Washington briefly shared an AI generated video mocking a security initiative promoted by Donald Trump during a regional summit with Latin American leaders.

According to reporting by CNN, the animation was produced by China’s state run Xinhua News Agency and posted on the embassy’s social media account before being removed.

The short video appeared to ridicule Trump’s proposed “Shield of the Americas” security initiative. The report said the animation showed a bald eagle controlling a meeting of doves representing Latin American nations before turning a protective shield into a cage.

The summit brought together conservative and center right leaders from across Latin America to discuss security cooperation and concerns about growing Chinese influence in the region.

The Trump administration has repeatedly warned about Beijing’s expanding economic presence in the Western Hemisphere, including investments in infrastructure and trade ties with several Latin American countries.
