Alex Jones Loses Supreme Court Appeal In $1.4B Sandy Hook Defamation Case

The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected Alex Jones’ appeal to overturn a $1.4 billion defamation judgment against him for spreading false claims that the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting was a hoax.

Juries in Connecticut and Texas found the Infowars founder liable in 2022 for defamation and emotional distress suffered by victims’ families.

Jones argued that the judgment amounted to a “financial death penalty” imposed on a media figure and warned that millions of his daily listeners would lose a “valued source of information” if Infowars were sold.

The families did not respond to his appeal, and the Supreme Court offered no explanation for declining to hear the case.

Earlier this year, a federal judge ordered Infowars’ parent company, Free Speech Systems, to be turned over to a court-appointed receiver for asset liquidation — potentially allowing The Onion to renew its bid for the platform.
