Amazon is in early talks to invest up to $10 billion in OpenAI, a move that could significantly reshape the artificial intelligence landscape, CNBC reported. The proposed deal would reportedly involve OpenAI using Amazon’s AI chips and cloud infrastructure.

If finalized, the investment would value OpenAI at more than $500 billion, according to Bloomberg. The talks reflect Amazon’s push to diversify its AI strategy as competition intensifies among major technology firms.

Amazon has already invested $8 billion in Anthropic and recently unveiled new versions of its Trainium AI chips to strengthen Amazon Web Services. An OpenAI investment would further expand Amazon’s role as a key AI infrastructure provider.

The discussions follow OpenAI’s recent shift to a for-profit model, which allows it to pursue deals beyond Microsoft, its largest backer.

The potential agreement fits a growing trend of circular AI deals, where chipmakers and cloud providers invest in AI firms that then commit to using their hardware and services.

Neither Amazon nor OpenAI commented on the report.
