Apple has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and two former Apple employees, alleging the artificial intelligence company misappropriated trade secrets related to consumer hardware development.
According to the report, the lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, claims OpenAI used confidential Apple information to advance its own hardware ambitions following its acquisition of IO Products.
The report said Apple alleges OpenAI Chief Hardware Officer Tang Tan encouraged job candidates to bring Apple components to interviews and used those meetings to obtain confidential information.
According to the report, the legal dispute comes despite the companies maintaining an existing partnership through ChatGPT's integration into Apple Intelligence.
The report added that Apple is also shifting its Siri assistant toward Google's Gemini AI models, although the company did not indicate whether the lawsuit would affect its ongoing relationship with OpenAI.
