President Donald Trump kept the Thanksgiving tradition alive Tuesday, pardoning two turkeys — Gobble and Waddle — during a Rose Garden ceremony that quickly shifted into politics and foreign policy.
Trump said a U.S.-brokered peace deal between Ukraine and Russia is “very close,” signaling renewed confidence in negotiations he has pushed to wrap up by Thanksgiving.
“Gobble, I just want to tell you, it’s very important — you are hereby, unconditionally pardoned.”

He also attacked former President Joe Biden, claiming Biden used an autopen for last year’s turkey pardon and calling that action “invalid.” Trump said he had “officially” pardoned those birds as well.
Gobble and Waddle, both around 50 pounds, will retire to North Carolina State University after a week of ceremonial fanfare in Washington. Their presentation comes as turkey prices surge.

According to USDA and Purdue University data, wholesale prices are up about 75% from last year due to avian flu and supply chain pressures. Retailers are promoting discounted holiday meal bundles to offset the spike.
