Federal authorities say they disrupted plans for a violent attack in New Orleans after arresting a former Marine who was traveling to the city with weapons and body armor, according to court documents obtained by the Associated Press.

Micah James Legnon, 28, was charged with making threats in interstate commerce. Investigators said Legnon was under surveillance due to suspected ties to a far-left, anti-government extremist group.

Authorities believe the planned attack escalated after federal immigration agents launched a major enforcement operation in southeast Louisiana.

Court records show Legnon referenced “recreating” Waco in online messages and shared videos of firearms and protective gear while stating he was headed to New Orleans.

Upon arrest, agents recovered an assault rifle, a handgun, body armor, and ammunition from Legnon’s vehicle. Additional weapons and tactical manuals were found at his residence.

Officials also linked the case to a broader investigation involving the same group, whose members were recently arrested in California while allegedly planning coordinated bomb attacks.
