Former Attorney General Bill Barr appeared on Capitol Hill Monday for a closed-door deposition with the House Oversight Committee, which is investigating Jeffrey Epstein’s case.
Barr, who led the Justice Department under President Donald Trump when Epstein died in federal custody, is the first of ten high-profile witnesses subpoenaed.
The Republican-led panel has also demanded that the Justice Department turn over all Epstein-related records, with victims’ names redacted.
Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) said he does not expect the department to meet Tuesday’s deadline but believes the documents will arrive “very soon.”
Democratic Reps. Suhas Subramanyam (Va.) and Jasmine Crockett (Texas) are also present for the Oversight Committee deposition of former Attorney General Bill Barr, though most lawmakers are not in Washington this month.

The committee has also subpoenaed former senior officials including Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton, James Comey, and Robert Mueller.
Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) delayed until September a full House vote on releasing the files, citing a need to give the administration time.
Republicans continue pressing for transparency in one of Washington’s most controversial cases.
