Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Monday that “all options are on the table” for further sanctions on Russia as the war in Ukraine drags on.
Speaking to Fox News, Bessent accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of escalating bombing attacks despite signaling interest in peace during recent meetings with President Donald Trump. “With President Trump, all options are on the table, and we’ll be examining those very closely this week,” Bessent said.

The Trump administration has held off on new sanctions, keeping the focus on peace negotiations. Trump has warned he will impose economic penalties if Moscow refuses to compromise, saying it “will not be a world war but an economic war.”
Secretary of State Marco Rubio cautioned that sanctions now would collapse ongoing talks. He noted that such a move could extend the war for another year or more, undermining chances for a diplomatic resolution.
