Bill Gates has withdrawn from delivering a keynote address at a major artificial intelligence summit in India as renewed scrutiny surrounds his past interactions with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, according to a statement from the Gates Foundation.
The foundation said Gates stepped aside to keep attention on the event’s core agenda, offering no further explanation.

The decision came hours before Gates was scheduled to speak at the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, which was inaugurated by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The move follows the release of draft emails found in Epstein’s records that contain unverified allegations involving Gates. Gates has forcefully denied the claims, calling them false and absurd. He has acknowledged meeting Epstein after his 2008 conviction but said it was a serious mistake in judgment.
Gates was in India earlier this week and had publicly confirmed his participation days before canceling. The foundation will now be represented by a senior regional official at the summit.
