Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin has postponed the return of its New Glenn rocket to January 2027, delaying its earlier target of December following a major explosion during a May hot-fire test.

CEO Dave Limp informed employees that reconstruction delays at the Cape Canaveral launch pad, including adverse summer weather, had pushed back the schedule. The company has since repaired the facility and modified its launch pad configuration.

The May incident occurred days before New Glenn was scheduled to deploy 48 satellites for Amazon's Leo internet service. Bezos had indicated last month that the rocket could return to flight in December.

Blue Origin is also expanding its Florida launch facilities as it seeks to increase launch frequency and compete with Elon Musk's SpaceX for commercial and government contracts. The company aims to support multiple launches per week by the end of the decade.
