The Trump administration has temporarily paused all border construction activity in Texas’ Big Bend National Park as officials conduct an on-site review of the project.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Rodney Scott ordered the halt while he and a small team meet with local leaders, residents and law enforcement officials.
Conservationists, local residents and some Texas officials have argued that Big Bend’s steep cliffs and rugged terrain already provide a natural barrier to illegal crossings.
According to the report, CBP has not specified how long the construction pause will last.
The agency said it remains committed to addressing national security concerns while considering the need to protect the park’s environment and unique landscape.
