The UK government has indicated it may intervene in Paramount Skydance's proposed acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, reported by CNN. British Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy said she was "minded to intervene," signaling that the government is considering formal legal action to review the transaction.
The proposed deal would bring together major media assets, including CNN, HBO, Warner Bros. Studios and other Warner Bros. Discovery businesses.
Paramount said it remains confident the acquisition does not raise media plurality concerns in the UK and expects the deal to close during the third quarter of this year.
The report said integration planning between Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery has already been underway for months, even as the UK government weighs whether to launch a formal intervention.
