Texas Rangers are investigating Camp Mystic leaders for potential crimes including manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide following the deaths of 28 people in the July 4, 2025, Central Texas floods.
A Kerr County judge approved 14 search warrants on Friday as investigators examine the camp’s emergency preparedness and response to the rapidly rising Guadalupe River.
The river rose from about 14 feet to nearly 30 feet within an hour, killing 25 campers, two counselors and co-executive director Dick Eastland.
Attorneys representing affected families described the warrants as an important step toward accountability. The Eastland family later filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, reporting more than $10 million in debts.
The Rangers’ investigation continues alongside a state review that identified multiple failures in the flood response.
