OpenAI's ChatGPT has emerged as the dominant artificial intelligence tool used by the U.S. House of Representatives, even as lawmakers debate new regulations for the AI industry, reported by CNBC.
According to CNBC's analysis of House spending records, ChatGPT accounted for about $100,580 of the $113,740 spent on identifiable AI tools between April 2025 and March 2026. That represented roughly 88% of AI spending and 96% of recorded transactions. Anthropic's Claude ranked a distant second.
CNBC noted that the figures likely understate total AI adoption because they exclude free accounts, Microsoft Copilot bundled with software packages and most Senate usage. Experts told the outlet lawmakers should evaluate multiple AI models to make informed decisions while shaping future AI regulations.
