China Launches Major War Games Around Taiwan After US Arms Deal

China on Monday announced large-scale military drills around Taiwan, mobilizing army, navy, air, and rocket forces in what Beijing called a “serious warning” to pro-independence forces and foreign backers, according to CNN.

The exercises, named “Justice Mission-2025,” include live-fire drills and simulated blockades of key ports and airspace.

China’s Eastern Theater Command said the drills aim to test combat readiness and deny access to external military forces. The China Coast Guard also launched patrols in nearby waters.

Taiwan’s government condemned the move as military intimidation and said its armed forces were on full alert to defend democratic institutions and regional stability.

The drills follow a newly announced $11.1 billion US arms package for Taiwan, which includes missile systems, drones, and artillery. Beijing sharply criticized the deal, calling it a violation of Chinese sovereignty.

Analysts told CNN the scope of the drills suggests preparation for a potential blockade scenario rather than routine training.
