China signaled it is ready to reset ties with Syria after meeting the country’s new foreign minister, Asaad al-Shaibani, in Beijing. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said the two nations should “bring relations back on track” and added that Beijing will “actively consider” supporting Syria’s post-war reconstruction, according to the Foreign Ministry.
Wang pressed Damascus to act against Uygur militant factions linked to Xinjiang separatist groups. Syria intends to hand over 400 Uygur jihadist fighters to China, said AFP.

Beijing has long been concerned about the Turkestan Islamic Party and the East Turkestan Islamic Movement, which the UN designates as terrorist organizations.
Both governments issued a joint statement affirming Syria’s sovereignty and rejecting foreign interference. Al-Shaibani said Syria seeks strategic partnerships with China during its rebuilding phase.
China’s caution toward the new regime stems from its past ties to Bashar al-Assad and alleged links to Xinjiang militants. Trade ties have begun to resume, including a recent 16,000-ton shipment to Tartus.
