North Korean leader Kim Jong-un said ties with China have reached a “new level” following talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Pyongyang, according to state media. Both sides pledged to deepen strategic coordination and expand practical cooperation.
Wang, on his first visit since 2019, conveyed greetings from President Xi Jinping and described the meeting as opening a new chapter in bilateral relations, as reported by Xinhua. The visit follows recent North Korean weapons tests and comes ahead of President Donald Trump’s planned trip to China next month.

The report said Beijing appears to be strengthening ties with Pyongyang amid shifting global tensions and North Korea’s growing alignment with Russia.
Notably, discussions avoided the issue of denuclearisation, reflecting a shift in China’s approach.
Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to high-level exchanges and regional coordination, while criticising U.S. pressure tactics.
Analysts suggest the renewed partnership underscores China’s focus on stability and influence in the region.
