China Orders Tech Giants To Halt Nvidia Chip Buys

Nvidia’s stock dipped after reports that Beijing has barred China’s top tech companies from buying the U.S. firm’s AI chips. The Cyberspace Administration of China directed firms such as ByteDance and Alibaba to halt purchases and cancel existing orders of Nvidia’s RTX Pro 6000D, a chip designed for the Chinese market.

CEO Jensen Huang, traveling with President Donald Trump on his state visit to the U.K., called the move “disappointing” but said he understood it reflected broader U.S.–China tensions. Nvidia earned roughly $17 billion from China last year, about 13% of its revenue.

The ban comes as Beijing seeks to cut dependence on American technology. Earlier this year, Washington temporarily restricted Nvidia’s sales of its H20 chips to China, only to reverse course in July. President Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping are set to discuss trade and technology disputes, including TikTok, on Friday.
