China’s attempt to launch its most powerful privately developed rocket ended in failure after a flight anomaly, reported by company officials. The Tianlong-3 rocket, developed by Space Pioneer, was designed to boost China’s satellite ambitions and compete with SpaceX’s Falcon 9.
According to the report, the rocket lifted off from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre but encountered a malfunction mid-flight. Space Pioneer confirmed the failure and said an investigation is underway. The company added it will implement fixes before future launches.

The report said Tianlong-3 is central to China’s plan to expand internet satellite networks, including the Qianfan constellation. The rocket is designed to carry dozens of satellites and be reusable, a key requirement for large-scale deployments.
Despite progress, China remains far behind SpaceX’s Starlink network, which has already deployed thousands of satellites.
The failed launch marks another setback in China’s push to scale up its space infrastructure and compete in the growing global satellite race.
