China Turns To AI To Shield Youth From Western Values

China is accelerating its use of artificial intelligence and big data to tighten ideological control and counter Western cultural influence, President Xi Jinping told the Politburo during a study session, according to Xinhua.

Xi urged officials to deploy new technologies to police cyberspace, strengthen censorship, and amplify “positive voices” that promote socialist values.

Senior ideology officials echoed the warning, arguing that Western culture spreads quickly through advanced information technology and poses a threat to China’s political stability.

Zhao Weidong, a Beijing municipal official, called for an AI-powered “firewall” to block Western ideas and ensure AI models are trained on “independent and controllable” data rooted in socialist values.

China already requires AI-generated content to align with state ideology and has pushed state media to create “positive energy” articles to feed domestic AI systems.

Regulators continue to purge online content, with the latest crackdown targeting “negative emotions” on Chinese platforms.
