China, US Continue Summit Preparations Despite Election Dispute

China said it remains in contact with the United States over planned meetings between President Xi Jinping and President Donald Trump later this year, despite Trump's recent allegations of Chinese interference in U.S. elections.

According to the South China Morning Post, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said head-of-state diplomacy remains essential for managing bilateral ties.

Although tensions have persisted over visa restrictions, export controls and sanctions on Chinese and American companies, both countries have maintained diplomatic engagement.

According to the report, senior officials are expected to meet during this week's ASEAN foreign ministers' gathering in Manila.

The report also said China and the United States have continued cooperation on law enforcement, including criminal extradition and anti-drug investigations.
