Chinese airlines have canceled flights on 12 Japan routes as political tensions between Beijing and Tokyo escalate, Chinese media reported. Data from aviation platform DAST shows 41 flights scrubbed so far, affecting major state-owned carriers including Air China, China Eastern, and China Southern. Routes to popular tourist hubs such as Osaka and Kyoto have been hit hardest.
The cancellations follow Beijing’s travel warning urging citizens to avoid Japan after Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi suggested Japan could deploy its military in a Taiwan conflict.

Chinese airlines have already received nearly 500,000 cancellation requests for Japan-bound tickets, roughly one-third of all bookings. Some routes now report cancellation rates as high as 60 percent.
Travel analysts predict the suspensions could extend into March, disrupting both directions of round-trip flights. Many Chinese travelers are rebooking trips to other Asian destinations as airlines shift capacity to higher-demand routes.
