A senior Chinese diplomat has moved to reassure Japanese businesses as tensions between Beijing and Tokyo escalate over remarks by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi about Taiwan.
Liu Jinsong, director-general of the Asian Affairs Department, visited a major Japanese manufacturer in Dalian, telling executives they should continue operations in China without concern, according to Nikkei.
His outreach followed an unproductive Nov. 18 meeting with Japan’s foreign ministry, where both sides traded firm positions.

The diplomatic rift has already disrupted parts of Japan’s entertainment industry, with Bandai Namco and singer Ayumi Hamasaki canceling events in China.
Business leaders on both sides have tried to maintain stability, with Keidanren’s chairman and China’s ambassador reaffirming the need for continued economic exchange.
China’s weak domestic demand and slowing foreign investment add urgency to Beijing’s damage-control efforts. Analysts warn the dispute could worsen if China restricts Japanese access to critical rare-earth minerals.
