Chinese technology company Xiaomi has rejected claims that it has ties to China’s military after US lawmakers urged the Pentagon to place the firm on a national security watch list, according to the company.

Xiaomi said it is a consumer-focused business that sells products for civilian and commercial use only.

The company said there is no basis to add it to the Pentagon’s Section 1260H list, which flags firms alleged to have military links but does not trigger automatic sanctions.

The response followed a letter from nine Republican lawmakers calling on Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to expand the list to include Xiaomi and several other Chinese technology companies.

The lawmakers said US agencies and businesses should be warned about potential security risks.

Xiaomi previously challenged a similar designation in 2021 and was removed from a Pentagon list after filing a lawsuit. Other Chinese firms, including drone maker DJI, have also contested such classifications.
