Cognizant is facing scrutiny from the U.S. Department of Labor as officials signal a tougher crackdown on alleged fraud and threats to American workers.

Inspector General Anthony D’Esposito reported on X that Cognizant’s PERM filings had been suspended. PERM is a key labor certification step used by U.S. employers sponsoring eligible foreign workers for employment-based green cards.

According to D’Esposito, the department is examining “facts, fraud and finances” in coordination with the White House Fraud Task Force.

His warning also suggested Cognizant may not be the only IT services company facing increased scrutiny from federal authorities.
