The U.S. lawmakers have returned to Washington facing a packed agenda dominated by the Iran war, a prolonged Department of Homeland Security shutdown, and internal political controversies, as reported by CBS News.

Congress is expected to debate continued support for the Iran conflict after President Donald Trump ordered a naval blockade following failed negotiations.

Democrats are pushing for votes to limit the president’s war powers, while some Republicans have warned their backing may weaken if the conflict extends beyond legal limits, the report said.

At the same time, lawmakers are struggling to resolve a DHS funding crisis that has persisted for weeks. Disagreements over immigration enforcement spending remain a key obstacle, with Republicans exploring alternative funding routes.

Adding to tensions, potential expulsion votes against members of both parties are being discussed following misconduct allegations.

According to CBS News, the coming days could test unity within Congress as lawmakers confront both national security challenges and internal divisions.
