Cornell University has suspended all fraternity social events through the 2026–27 academic year following public criticism over its handling of a 2024 sexual assault allegation involving a female student at a fraternity house.
University President Michael Kotlikoff announced a zero-tolerance policy under which violations can trigger immediate emergency chapter suspensions.
Cornell will also partner with New York State Police to incorporate independent, trauma-informed criminal investigators into its response to campus sex crime allegations.
Additionally, the university plans to appoint a dedicated case manager within its Office of Civil Rights to help students reporting sexual misconduct navigate the process.
Cornell’s new policies aim to strengthen accountability and improve support for students reporting sexual misconduct.
