Democrats made government corruption a central campaign issue by connecting it to rising living costs and economic inequality, a strategy that helped strengthen their performance in the 2026 elections.
Its Election Day voter poll also found that 69% believed government benefits primarily favoured wealthy Americans.
The issue gained prominence amid reports concerning business dealings involving President Donald Trump’s family and the growth of his personal wealth during his second term.
Democratic candidates carried this message into their victory speeches, promising to challenge what they described as a system favouring wealthy interests.
Texas Democrat James Talarico called for restrictions on big-money political influence and argued that economic divisions, rather than political ideology, were central to the country's problems.
The strategy placed corruption alongside affordability as a defining election issue.
