Country music legend Dolly Parton has died at 80, her family announced Tuesday. The singer, songwriter and philanthropist had reduced her public appearances in recent years while dealing with ongoing health challenges.
Parton built one of the most successful careers in country music, releasing 49 studio albums and winning 11 Grammy Awards. Her best-known songs include “Jolene” and “9 to 5.”
Parton's death comes 17 months after the death of her husband, Carl Dean, in March 2025.
President Donald Trump ordered American flags to be flown at half-staff for a week in her honor. Fellow entertainers also paid tribute to the singer.
Her family has asked fans to donate to the Imagination Library instead of sending flowers, reflecting Parton's lifelong commitment to children's literacy.
