A federal judge has denied the Trump Justice Department’s bid to unseal grand jury materials from the Ghislaine Maxwell sex trafficking case. The DOJ sought testimony and exhibits linked to Jeffrey Epstein cases in New York.
Judge Paul Engelmayer sharply rejected the request, stating the Maxwell grand jury testimony is neither of significant historical nor public interest.
He noted most of the information is already public, having been presented during Maxwell’s 2021 trial, and described it as “garden-variety summary testimony” by two law enforcement agents.

Engelmayer criticized the DOJ for appearing unfamiliar with the trial record and suggested the motion may have been aimed at creating “the illusion” of transparency rather than informing the public.
The DOJ has also requested similar materials from the Epstein case, which remains pending before Judge Richard Berman.
