A suspected gas leak caused a catastrophic explosion at a nursing home in Bristol Township, killing two people and leaving others unaccounted for, state officials said Tuesday.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro confirmed the deaths and said rescue crews are still searching for missing residents.
The blast occurred shortly after 2 p.m. local time and sent thick black smoke into the air. Large sections of the building collapsed, and most windows were blown out.
Tonight in Bristol, our first responders displayed extraordinary courage as they bravely ran towards danger to get residents, their loved ones, and staff at Silver Lake Nursing Home to safety.

Fire officials said part of the first floor fell into the basement, complicating rescue efforts.
Emergency teams have pulled several people from the debris and brought in specialized equipment to continue the search. Authorities stressed the operation remains in rescue mode.
Local officials declared a disaster emergency for seven days, citing the risk of further collapse. Investigators are examining the cause, though the explosion coincided with reports of a gas odor.
