Deadly Strikes Pound Kyiv As Russia Claims Of Ukrainian Assassination Attempts

Russia’s Federal Security Service claimed Friday that it thwarted a Ukrainian plot to assassinate a senior Kremlin official during a visit to a cemetery near Moscow.

Ukraine’s Security Service dismissed the allegation as “nonsense,” saying Moscow was fabricating stories.

The claim surfaced as Kyiv endured another night of deadly Russian missile and drone strikes that killed at least six people and injured dozens, including children and a pregnant woman. More than 15 buildings, including a medical facility, were damaged.

Ukraine also conducted its own overnight attacks. The Security Service of Ukraine confirmed striking Novorossiysk, Russia’s second-largest oil export hub, damaging tankers, pipelines, and an air-defense site.

Local Russian officials reported at least four injuries and widespread structural damage; a state of emergency was declared.

Both sides have intensified cross-border operations, including targeted assassinations.

Monitoring group ACLED reports 2025 has already seen more assassination attempts inside Russia than the previous three years combined.
