A suicide bomber killed at least 30 people and wounded about 170 others outside a Shiite mosque in a suburb of Islamabad during Friday prayers, Pakistani police said.
The blast occurred at the Imambargah Khadijatul Kubra in the Tarlai area as worshippers gathered, according to officials speaking to media.
Witnesses said the attacker was stopped at the gate before detonating the explosive. Images from the scene showed severe casualties, including children.

Islamabad hospitals declared an emergency, with the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences reaching capacity as victims were rushed in.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ordered an investigation and vowed those responsible would be brought to justice. No group immediately claimed responsibility.
Pakistan has faced repeated attacks from militant groups, including the regional Islamic State affiliate ISIS-Khorasan, which has previously targeted civilians and religious minorities.
