Early voting data show a sharp surge in Democratic turnout ahead of next week’s U.S. Senate primaries in Texas, according to figures cited by CNN. About 850,000 ballots had been cast in the Democratic primary through Tuesday, nearly 60% higher than the same point in the 2020 Democratic presidential primary, based on Associated Press data.
Several large counties have already exceeded their total Democratic primary turnout from recent cycles, with days of voting still remaining.
Republican early turnout has also increased but at a slower pace, trailing Democratic participation and only modestly exceeding prior midterm levels. So far, roughly 54% of all primary ballots have been cast on the Democratic side.
Analysts say the numbers reflect stronger Democratic motivation since President Donald Trump returned to the White House. Similar Democratic turnout gains are also appearing in Arkansas and North Carolina. However, analysts caution that primary enthusiasm does not always translate into general election results.
