Democrats are preparing to revive proposals to reform the Supreme Court after securing control of both chambers of Congress in the 2026 midterm elections. According to CBS News, their agenda could include stricter ethics rules, term limits for justices and expanding the court beyond its current nine members.

House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries has called for changes at the Supreme Court, with Representative Jamie Raskin expected to lead the effort through the House Judiciary Committee.

Other proposals include 18-year terms for justices, regular appointment schedules and restrictions on gifts. Representative Al Green has also introduced legislation to increase the court's membership from nine to 13.

However, the plans face significant obstacles. Most Senate legislation requires 60 votes, while Democrats are expected to hold only 54 to 56 seats. President Donald Trump could also reject any approved measures.
