Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is drawing attention with his latest fiscal oversight initiative, potentially named "FAFO" — a nod to a popular internet meme with a profane origin. The acronym, which DeSantis now claims stands for "Florida Agency for Fiscal Oversight," was floated on social media this week as he teased a possible executive order to formalize the new watchdog.
The initiative launched last week with audits in Gainesville and Broward County, two Democrat-controlled jurisdictions. Framed as a move for “transparency and accountability,” the effort aligns with DeSantis’s broader push to root out what he calls wasteful spending in blue strongholds.
Florida Agency for Fiscal Oversight has a nice ring to it — might need to work up an executive order and make it official. https://t.co/AiLDjpPFiN

Inspired by Elon Musk’s “Doge” department — short for “department of government efficiency” — the audits mark another step in DeSantis’s long-term goal to eliminate property taxes in Florida.
Florida CFO Blaise Ingoglia, a key ally, coined the FAFO nickname. “It got a rave reception,” he posted on X, touting its debut at a recent GOP event.
