The Trump administration is weighing a proposal to restrict transgender Americans from owning firearms, CNN reported, citing Justice Department officials.
The discussions follow last week’s Minneapolis church shooting that killed two children and injured 21, allegedly carried out by a 23-year-old transgender woman.
Justice Department leaders are exploring whether gender dysphoria, classified in the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, could serve as grounds to deny Second Amendment rights.

Story to come.
One official said the aim would be to prevent “mentally ill individuals suffering from gender dysphoria” from purchasing weapons. Critics note that federal law requires a judge’s ruling before stripping gun rights.
President Trump has previously barred transgender people from military service and ordered prisons to house inmates by birth sex. Attorney General Pam Bondi has also advanced investigations into gender-affirming care. Any move to restrict gun ownership is expected to face legal and political challenges.
