The price of eggs has dropped more than 61% since President Donald Trump took office in January, falling from $6.49 per dozen to $2.52, according to the USDA.
Prices had surged to over $8 in March, driven by record-high inflation and the ongoing bird flu outbreak that has killed 166 million birds since 2022, including 127 million egg-laying hens.
Weaker consumer demand and a slowdown in new bird flu cases have helped bring prices down, analysts say. Over 30% of Americans reportedly stopped buying eggs earlier this year due to high costs, according to Clarify Capital.
To stabilize supply, the U.S. ramped up egg imports from countries like Turkey, Brazil, and South Korea.
