President Donald Trump on Sunday sought to ease tensions inside his Justice Department over renewed controversy surrounding Jeffrey Epstein’s death. Speaking to reporters, Trump confirmed he spoke with Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino, calling him a “very good guy” who “sounded terrific.”
Bongino, a longtime ally of Trump and former conservative broadcaster, is reportedly at odds with Attorney General Pam Bondi over the DOJ’s decision to close the Epstein case without disclosing a long-rumored client list.
Fox News and NBC News reported Bongino considered resigning after a heated confrontation with Bondi.
Trump’s comments followed days of criticism from MAGA-aligned figures, including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and activist Laura Loomer, who accused the DOJ of a cover-up. FBI Director Kash Patel also dismissed resignation rumors, stating he would “continue to serve” the President.
The Justice Department insists there is no credible evidence supporting conspiracy theories tied to Epstein’s 2019 death.
