Newly released emails tied to Jeffrey Epstein reveal a previously unknown proposal to establish a Boston campus of Tsinghua University, China’s top academic institution, with involvement from Harvard-affiliated figures, according to the South China Morning Post.
The emails, dating from 2016 to 2019, show discussions among Chinese American mathematician Shing-Tung Yau, Harvard donor Gerald Chan, and Harvard professor Martin Nowak.

The group explored creating a Boston-based Tsinghua campus to promote academic exchanges and sought Epstein’s help securing funding.
The proposal called for a site near Soldiers Field Road and an annual budget of about $50 million.
The plan never materialized and is unlikely to be revived amid rising U.S.-China tensions and tighter scrutiny of academic ties. The documents do not allege wrongdoing and are unrelated to Epstein’s criminal conduct.
