EU Leaders Appear More Scared Of Trump Than Apocalypse That Will Engulf The Earth In Flames

European leaders are so scared of President Donald Trump that they have abandoned the notion that they can all fight climate change together.

Trump ordered the U.S. on Wednesday to pull out of the 1992 climate treaty, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. America will no longer play a role in collaborating with the U.N. on alleviating the potential downsides and risks of an evolving climate.

For all their bluster about climate apocalypse, several E.U. leaders, save for one, were too scared to confront Trump. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen (who has previously said that the “climate crisis is accelerating at pace“) went radio silent, as did United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer (who onced vowed to double down in the fight against climate change).

US President Donald Trump (R) shakes hands with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen (L) after agreeing on a trade deal between the two economies following their meeting, in Turnberry south west Scotland on July 27, 2025, on the third day of his visit to the country, since his second tenure as President began. US President Donald Trump said on July 27, 2025 that he had reached a trade agreement with European Union chief Ursula von der Leyen. “We have reached a deal. It’s a good deal for everybody,” Trump told reporters after talks with von der Leyen at his golf resort in Turnberry, Scotland. The EU chief also hailed it as a “good deal”.

President Emmanuel Macron did chirp up Wednesday, claiming that America’s withdrawal from 66 international organizations, including the climate treaty, “weakens all the bodies through which we can resolve common issues.”

But he also told French officials, “we are not here to comment, we are here to act … If we have an intelligent response to offer, we do so. If we don’t have an intelligent response to offer, we look elsewhere,” according to Politico EU.

Recall that in 2017 European leaders bashed Trump after the United States left the Paris Climate Agreement. But now they are so scared of the president, the power that he wields over their continent, and the speculation that the United States will try to annex Greenland, that, all of a sudden, the climate apocalypse — the dystopian disaster that will envelop nations in sea water and wildfire — is not such a pressing issue.

And there is also something to be said of Politico EU, which, along with Politico, is owned by a German media corporation. Increasingly, the outlet has become a window into European weakness and dysfunction

The Europeans might do coffee, leisure, and soccer well, but they are quite trashy when it comes to geopolitics. And when it comes to fighting Donald Trump, whom they perceive as a 1940s dictator reincarnated, they are even worse.
