EU Warns Wildfire Threat Shifting Toward Italy And Greece

The European Union has warned that the wildfire threat is shifting eastward, with Greece, Italy and parts of Central Europe expected to face heightened risks in the coming weeks.

According to Maria Zuber, head of the EU's Emergency Response Coordination Centre, France will continue to experience difficult conditions in the short term while other countries prepare for potential outbreaks.

The report said Greece, which has so far avoided major wildfires, is likely to see conditions worsen, while Italy could face increased danger at the beginning of August.

Authorities are also monitoring the Iberian Peninsula as extreme heat, dry weather, strong winds and limited rainfall continue to fuel fire risks.

According to EU officials, Europe experienced its worst wildfire season on record last year, and this year's conditions are following a similar pattern.

The EU has already deployed aircraft, helicopters and firefighting teams to support France and Spain as the region battles ongoing blazes.
