Speaking at his Turnberry golf resort in Scotland alongside British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, President Donald Trump said the U.S. has provided $60 million in humanitarian aid for Gaza and urged other nations to increase their support.
Trump said he spoke with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who assured him that European nations would “very substantially” step up assistance. He added that he planned to discuss the humanitarian crisis with Starmer during the visit.
.@POTUS on Gaza: "I'm looking for getting people fed right now. That's the number one position because you have a lot of starving people ... Other nations are going to have to step up ... Trump declined to comment on French President Emmanuel Macron’s push for Palestinian statehood but criticized Hamas for refusing to release more hostages, both living and dead.
He said he told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Israel might need to consider a new approach. “I told Bibi that you have to maybe do it a different way,” Trump said, repeating remarks made earlier this week.
Asked about a ceasefire, Trump replied, “Yeah, a ceasefire is possible, but you have to get it, you have to end it,” without elaborating.
