FBI co-deputy director Andrew Bailey has announced that he will resign from the bureau, with his departure effective October 2. Bailey said he is leaving to return to his family in Missouri.

Bailey shared the deputy director position with Christopher Raia under FBI Director Kash Patel. His resignation comes amid a series of leadership changes and departures at the bureau since Patel took over as director.

MS NOW reporter Carol Leonnig cited sources who said Bailey was frustrated after reportedly being considered for the FBI director position but ultimately not selected. Those claims have not been independently confirmed.

The departure also follows the reassignment of two counterterrorism supervisors in connection with an investigation involving harassing calls directed at Katie Miller.

Despite his resignation, Bailey expressed confidence that Patel would continue efforts to combat violent crime and restore public trust. The FBI has faced increased scrutiny over leadership decisions and personnel changes under Patel.
