Despite the good news, assaults on officers hit a 10-year high. Over 85,000 incidents were reported in 2024, up from 83,000 in 2023 and a significant jump from 52,000 in 2015.
From 2021 to 2024, 258 officers were feloniously killed in the line of duty. The FBI is launching a behavioral analysis study to understand this disturbing trend. The FBI’s report, based on data from agencies covering over 90% of the U.S. population, also noted a slight drop in hate crimes by 1.5%.
